The woman, identified as Rupali Gadge, was working on her farm since the morning. As temperatures climbed in the afternoon, she reportedly began feeling uneasy and dizzy before suddenly collapsing in the field.
Her family rushed her to a nearby hospital, but doctors were unable to save her. Medical officials suspect heatstroke may have caused her death, though the final medical report is still awaited.
The incident has put focus on the growing impact of extreme summer heat in Pune district, where temperatures have been rising steadily over the past few days.
Officials said farmers, labourers and others who spend long hours outdoors are at higher risk during peak afternoon heat.
Following the incident, health authorities issued a fresh heat advisory, asking people to avoid working in direct sunlight between 12 pm and 4 pm. They have also advised residents to drink enough water, wear light clothing and keep their heads covered while stepping outside.
Authorities now plan to step up awareness campaigns in rural areas, especially in villages where many people work outdoors for long hours under the sun.
