Pune Municipal Corporation has issued a warning to residents about a viral message claiming a 30% property tax rebate for senior citizens.

Officials said the message is fake and no such benefit has been announced by the government. They have asked people, especially elderly residents, to ignore such claims and rely only on official sources.

According to civic authorities, the message created confusion across the city. Many senior citizens started contacting municipal offices to check if the discount was real.

Ravi Pawar, head of the property tax department, said the claim about a government circular approving the rebate is false. The message was checked and found to be misleading.

PMC has advised citizens to visit official channels or contact local ward offices for correct information related to property tax.

While the viral claim is not true, officials said some genuine benefits are available. Property owners can get discounts if they pay tax before May 31.

There are also additional rebates for those using eco-friendly systems like rainwater harvesting, solar panels and composting.

Authorities have once again reminded residents to stay alert and avoid believing fake messages circulating on social media.
