The incident took place at around 11:45 am between Devadhe and Veral villages in Lanja taluka. A large amount of soil and rocks slid down from a nearby hill and fell onto the highway.
Fortunately, no vehicles were passing through the stretch when the landslide occurred. As a result, there were no casualties or injuries reported.
The landslide left a pile of mud and stones on one side of the road, creating temporary obstacles for motorists. However, authorities acted quickly to prevent a complete closure of the highway.
Soon after receiving information about the incident, officials and emergency teams reached the spot. Using JCB machines, workers began clearing the debris and removing rocks and mud from the road.
Efforts were carried out on a priority basis to ensure that traffic on the Mumbai-Goa Highway continued without major disruption. Authorities also implemented safety measures to help vehicles pass through the affected stretch safely.
The incident comes as heavy rainfall continues across the Konkan region. In recent days, several areas have witnessed landslides and rain-related incidents due to the persistent downpour.
Officials have advised motorists travelling through hilly regions to remain cautious, especially during periods of intense rainfall. They warned that more such incidents cannot be ruled out if the rain continues at its current pace.
Authorities said the situation is currently under control, and while traffic was affected for a short period, the highway remains open for vehicles. Monitoring of the area is continuing as a precaution amid the ongoing heavy rain in the region.
