Mumbai Pune : Passengers travelling between Mumbai and Pune will soon get some relief as the Maharashtra government has announced 200 additional daily ST bus trips following the cancellation of several train services on the route.

The decision was announced by Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik after around 30 daily trains between Mumbai and Pune were cancelled due to landslides triggered by heavy rainfall in the Lonavala-Karjat section.

In a post on X, Sarnaik said the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has started additional bus services to reduce the inconvenience faced by passengers.

Along with the regular e-Shivneri services, the MSRTC will operate 200 extra trips of ordinary buses every day on the Mumbai-Pune route. The government said the move will provide passengers with a safe and uninterrupted travel option while railway services remain affected.

Officials have also instructed bus depots and regional divisions to deploy more buses if passenger demand increases. The transport department said it is closely monitoring the situation to ensure there is no shortage of transport services.

According to MSRTC officials in Pune, nearly 100 buses already operate daily between Mumbai and Pune. Following the train cancellations, the corporation will further increase services by adding both E-Shivai electric buses and regular ST buses.

The minister said the transport corporation is fully prepared to handle the additional passenger load while ensuring safety, convenience, and timely services.

The Central Railway has cancelled around 30 train services between Mumbai and Pune until July 17 after multiple landslides damaged tracks in the Lonavala-Karjat section during heavy rainfall.

Railway officials said the decision was taken to avoid last-minute cancellations and help passengers plan their journeys in advance. Restoration work is underway, but authorities said repairs could take time because of the extensive damage and difficult weather conditions.
