A deadly road accident at Marine Drive in Mumbai claimed three lives early Monday morning after a speeding motorcycle hit a pedestrian at a traffic junction.

Police said the accident happened around 5:40 am near the Parsi Gymkhana signal on NS Road. Initial investigation suggests the motorcycle was being ridden at high speed and allegedly jumped the signal before crashing into a man who was crossing the road.

The impact left the rider, his woman pillion passenger, and the pedestrian seriously injured. Passersby quickly rushed all three to Gokuldas Tejpal Hospital, where doctors declared them dead.

The pedestrian has been identified as 66-year-old Kishor Pandurang Lamne, a resident of Girgaon. Police also identified the biker as 19-year-old Krishna Uday Desai from Mulund. The identity of the woman riding pillion is yet to be confirmed.

Officials believe the rider may have lost control because of overspeeding, leading to the fatal collision.

An accidental death report has been registered at Marine Drive Police Station, and police have launched a detailed probe into the incident.

In a separate road tragedy earlier this month, a newly married couple lost their lives in a crash on the Nashik-Mumbai highway after a speeding container truck hit their motorcycle. Police are also investigating that case to determine whether negligence played a role.

The back-to-back accidents have once again raised concerns over road safety and reckless driving in and around Mumbai.
