According to police, the accident took place at around 3 am when the luxury sports car was travelling from Titwala towards Badlapur. The vehicle reportedly lost control and slammed into a divider before overturning.
The impact was so severe that the BMW was completely destroyed. Parts of the vehicle were scattered across the road, and eyewitnesses said the crash left debris spread over a large area.
Officials said the car was reportedly moving at around 250 kmph at the time of the accident. Authorities are investigating the circumstances that led to the crash.
The victims have been identified as Yogesh Dighe and Rikeba Jakap, both residents of Badlapur. They died at the scene of the accident.
A third passenger, Anand, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a private hospital in Thane, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
Initial information suggests that the three occupants were returning home after attending a birthday party when the accident occurred.
Police sent the bodies to a government hospital for post-mortem examination. A forensic team also visited the accident site and collected evidence as part of the investigation.
Officials from Badlapur Police Station said an accidental death case has been registered and further inquiries are underway. Investigators are examining several aspects of the incident, including whether alcohol consumption played any role in the crash.
