The metro service will be launched in phases, with the first section opening on the Hinjewadi side. The remaining stretch towards Shivajinagar is expected to become operational by October, completing the full corridor.
Once fully open, the elevated metro route will cover 23.2 km and include 23 stations, creating a direct and faster travel link between Pune’s busy IT hub in Hinjewadi and the city centre.
Officials said trial runs across the entire route have already been completed successfully, clearing the path for the phased launch.
The first phase will improve daily travel for thousands of IT professionals and local commuters who currently face long traffic delays on the Hinjewadi route.
Important stations on the corridor include Megapolis Society in Maan, Quadron Business Park, Dohler, Infosys Phase 2, Wipro Technologies Phase 2, Pall India, Shivaji Chowk, Courtyard by Marriott, Wakad Chowk, Balewadi Stadium, Orchid Hotel, Ramnagar, Balewadi Phata, Baner Gaon, Baner, Krushi Anussandhan, YASHADA, Savitribai Phule Pune University, RBI, Agriculture College, Shivajinagar and District & Sessions Court.
Once the full line becomes operational, passengers at Shivajinagar will be able to connect directly with Pune Metro’s existing corridors, including Line 1 from PCMC to Swargate and Line 2 from Vanaz to Ramwadi. This will improve metro connectivity across Pune.
Fare details and the final train schedule are expected to be announced closer to the launch date.
Metro Line 3 is also a landmark project, as it is India’s first metro route developed under a public-private partnership model. The project is being built by Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited, a joint venture between the Tata Group and Siemens.
French transport company Keolis will handle operations, station management, maintenance and ticketing services for the next 10 years.
