The project is expected to become the longest metro route in Maharashtra, covering a distance of about 43.39 km with 24 stations. Once completed, it will connect Kanjurmarg to Juvli village near Badlapur.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority has now invited fresh bids to appoint a new consultant for the project. This step comes after the earlier contract was cancelled in December 2025.
Officials plan to review the existing project report in detail. A revised budget will be prepared, followed by new surveys. The aim is to speed up the project and ensure better planning.
This metro corridor will play an important role in connecting different parts of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. It will link with other key metro lines and improve travel between Mumbai, Thane and nearby areas.
At present, projects like Mumbai Metro Line 5 and Mumbai Metro Line 12 are already under construction. Metro Line 14 is expected to extend connectivity further towards Badlapur.
Currently, commuters travelling from Badlapur depend mainly on the suburban railway network. This often leads to overcrowded trains, especially during peak hours.
With the new metro line, lakhs of passengers are expected to get relief from local train crowding. Travel between Mumbai and Badlapur will become faster and more comfortable.
The project is also important for the fast-growing Badlapur region, where population and daily travel demand are increasing.
Once completed, the metro line will offer a strong alternative to rail travel and improve overall connectivity in the region.
