Students and parents across Maharashtra have been left shocked after Mahesh Tutorials suddenly shut down its coaching centres, raising concerns over the future of enrolled students and the fees already paid.

The coaching institute, operated by MT Educare Limited, has been one of the most well-known names in private education for nearly 38 years. It offered coaching for Class 8 to 12 students, along with preparation for NEET, JEE, CBSE, ICSE, and other competitive examinations.

According to initial reports, the institute closed its branches without giving prior notice to students or parents. The decision is reportedly linked to the company’s financial difficulties and insolvency proceedings.

Sources said an emergency meeting of branch operators was held on July 7. Following the meeting, a decision was taken to close all branches across the state with effect from July 10.

The sudden closure has created uncertainty for thousands of students who had already enrolled for the current academic year. Many parents had paid lakhs of rupees in fees, and they are now worried about whether they will receive refunds or how their children’s studies will continue.

Arihant Academy has reportedly expressed its willingness to accommodate students from Mahesh Tutorials in Mumbai. However, there is still no official clarity on the fee adjustment or refund process.

Parents have been trying to contact various branches since the announcement, but many reported that phone lines are either switched off or go unanswered.

Mahesh Tutorials started in Mulund and later expanded across Maharashtra. At its peak, the institute operated around 60 branches, including nearly 40 in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

Reports suggest that the company’s financial troubles had been building over the past two years. An audit conducted on September 30, 2025, reportedly raised serious concerns about financial irregularities.

The company is also reported to have outstanding debt of Rs 32.33 crore, along with liabilities related to certain corporate guarantees. While insolvency is believed to be the main reason behind the shutdown, many parents are now waiting for an official statement regarding fee refunds and the future of ongoing courses.
