Dadar Railway Station, one of Mumbai’s busiest hubs, is set for a major upgrade to handle its daily crowd better. The move comes after years of overcrowding and frequent delays faced by commuters.
As part of the plan, a new platform will be built between the Central and Western Railway lines. This work is linked to the 5th–6th line expansion, which aims to increase track capacity and improve train movement during peak hours.
To make space for the project, land is being cleared from the western side of the station, mainly in the Dalavi Nagar area. Authorities have identified around 46 encroachments. Most residents and shop owners have already received eviction notices.
Officials said some cases are still under legal review. Others are being handled through rehabilitation plans. In some cases, people are being offered alternative homes or commercial spaces. A few structures have already been removed, while talks are ongoing with the remaining occupants.
Once completed, the new platform is expected to improve how suburban trains are managed. By separating train movement between the Central and Western lines, officials hope to reduce bottlenecks and improve punctuality.
Another key change will be the renumbering of platforms, which is expected to make navigation easier for daily passengers.
The project is likely to bring some relief to lakhs of commuters who pass through Dadar station every day.
