Officials said the fire broke out on February 23 at a food outlet run by Om Sai Ram Enterprises. The investigation report was submitted within a week. It found that the incident was caused due to poor maintenance of equipment.
Based on the findings, IRCTC took action against the operator. A fine of over ₹2 lakh has been imposed, and the licence has been terminated. The food plaza is currently closed, and a new tender will be issued soon to restart the facility.
Railway officials said the decision was taken keeping passenger safety and railway property in mind. The incident raised concerns about safety standards at the station.
The fire started around 6:30 pm in the chimney area during cooking. Thick smoke spread across the station, creating panic among passengers. Fire teams reached the spot quickly and brought the situation under control. No injuries were reported in the incident.
Officials added that further steps will be taken once the new tender process is completed.
