The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is now targeting November 2026 to begin partial operations on the Gaimukh–Cadbury Junction section of the corridor.
The project was originally expected to open in phases earlier this year. Authorities had planned to start services on a part of the route in January, followed by further expansion by March. However, multiple construction and project-related challenges have forced a revision of the schedule.
According to reports, a fatal accident in Mulund in February significantly affected the project’s progress. The incident involved the collapse of a parapet slab and led to delays in several important activities related to safety certification and pre-commissioning work.
Officials estimate that the accident pushed the project timeline back by nearly two months.
The ongoing monsoon season is also expected to slow down some remaining work, creating additional challenges before the corridor can receive the required operational approvals.
Despite the delays, authorities said construction on the proposed operational stretch between Gaimukh and Cadbury Junction is nearing completion. Officials estimate that around 90 per cent of the work on this section has already been completed.
Once operational, Metro Line 4 is expected to improve connectivity across key parts of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and provide a faster travel option for thousands of daily commuters.
