Mumbai: The city’s ongoing monsoon has claimed its fourth rain-related death after an 18-year-old youth was killed when a tree branch fell on a moving motorcycle in Aarey Colony.

The accident took place on Saturday afternoon on Road No. 13 in Aarey Colony during heavy rainfall. The victim was identified as Hasan Raza Jahangir Alam Syed, a resident of the Sakinaka area.

According to officials, Hasan Raza was riding with his friends when a large tree branch suddenly broke off and fell directly onto him. He suffered severe head injuries in the accident.

He was immediately taken to Balaji Hospital in Malad East for treatment. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Police have registered an accidental death case at Aarey Colony Police Station, and further investigation is underway.

The incident comes amid a rise in tree-fall accidents across Mumbai due to continuous heavy rain and strong winds.

Earlier on the same day, a 63-year-old man, identified as Yunus Kundawala, died after a tree collapsed on him in Kurla’s Naupada area. He was rushed to a nearby private hospital but later succumbed to his injuries. The incident was captured on CCTV, and the video has since gone viral.

Just two days earlier, a 60-year-old man lost his life after falling into an open manhole in Sakinaka during heavy rain. Rescue teams later recovered him from the drainage system after an extensive search.

Before that, a school student was killed in Chembur after a tree collapsed on him during the monsoon.

With these incidents, the Mumbai rains have now claimed four lives in separate accidents over the past few days. The repeated tragedies have sparked public anger, with residents demanding better maintenance of trees, safer roads and stronger civic measures to prevent such incidents during the monsoon season.
