Mumbai: Heavy rainfall and strong winds continue to cause devastation across the city, with Mumbai rains claiming another life after a tree collapsed onto a shop in Kurla.

The incident took place on Sunday afternoon in the Naupada area of Kurla West, near a municipal school and opposite the Gomes Gown Building. According to officials, strong winds uprooted a large tree, which crashed onto a nearby shop.

The victim, identified as Yunus Kundawala (63), was inside the shop when the tree fell. He suffered severe injuries after being trapped under the debris.

Local residents rushed to the spot and removed the fallen tree before shifting him to Fauzia Hospital for treatment. However, doctors declared him dead before treatment could begin.

The tree collapse was captured on CCTV, and the video has since surfaced online, drawing attention to the dangers posed by heavy rain and strong winds across the city.

With this incident, the number of rain-related deaths in Mumbai has risen to three.

A few days earlier, a school student lost his life in Chembur after a tree fell on a school bus during heavy rain. In another incident, a 55-year-old man died after falling into an open manhole in the Sakinaka area while walking through a waterlogged road.

The latest tragedy has once again raised concerns over the safety of ageing trees and civic infrastructure during the monsoon. Residents have questioned whether adequate preventive measures were taken despite forecasts of heavy rainfall.

Authorities have urged people to remain indoors whenever possible during periods of intense rain and strong winds and to avoid standing or parking near large trees as adverse weather conditions continue across Mumbai.
