The civic body is currently running its ‘Pedestrian First’ campaign, which focuses on keeping footpaths clear for pedestrians. Officials have been asked to ensure that the campaign is not affected during Ganeshotsav and the upcoming Navratri celebrations.
Bhide has appealed to Ganpati mandals, advertisers and citizens to follow BMC rules during the festive season. Unauthorized advertisements should not be installed on roads or footpaths.
The BMC has also laid down rules for displaying commercial advertisements during festivals. Advertisements must not interfere with traffic movement and pedestrian paths.
The civic administration and licensing department have been instructed to strictly enforce these rules.
Some of the key guidelines include avoiding advertisements promoting gutkha and tobacco products.
Ganpati mandals can display the message ‘Devotees are warmly welcomed’ at their entrances. Advertisements of donors can also be displayed at the entrance of the mandap.
The BMC has also asked organisers and advertisers to give priority to social, civic and health awareness messages through their advertisements.
The civic body said the measures are aimed at making the festival safer and more convenient for citizens while ensuring that roads and footpaths remain accessible.
