The Public Works Department has issued the government resolution for the project, which will be implemented by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC).
The proposed 3.55-km link road will directly connect Bandra Fort to the sea link. Officials believe the new route will improve connectivity for residents and visitors travelling from Bandra West, including Pali Hill, Bandstand, and nearby areas.
Traffic in these neighbourhoods has increased significantly in recent years due to tourism, redevelopment projects, luxury hotels, and growing commercial activity. The new connector is expected to ease congestion by providing a quicker route to the sea link.
According to the government, the estimated construction cost of the road is ₹1,183.79 crore. After adding GST, consultancy fees, maintenance, supervision, administrative expenses, and other related costs, the total project cost will reach ₹1,722.40 crore.
The entire project will be funded by the state government, while the contract will be awarded through the standard tendering process.
The 9.8-km Bandra-Versova Sea Link, officially known as the Swatantryaveer Savarkar Sea Link, is currently under construction. The project also includes connecting roads at Bandra, Carter Road, Juhu, and Versova.
Once completed, the new connector is expected to reduce travel time between Bandra Fort and the sea link while helping ease traffic congestion across Mumbai’s western suburbs.
In a separate development, the state government has approved the removal of around 8,000 trees for the Dharavi Redevelopment Project.
Authorities have said that nearly 30,000 trees will be planted in available open spaces in and around Dharavi as part of the compensatory plantation plan.
The Mumbai civic body’s Tree Authority has also approved the removal and transplantation of 2,710 trees for several major infrastructure projects, including the Dharavi redevelopment, the Marine Lines–Orange Gate tunnel, and projects in Powai, Kandivali, and Ghatkopar.
