Pune Ring Road Gains Speed, Land Acquisition Plan Advances

The Pune Ring Road project has taken a step forward as the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority has fixed land rates in three villages.

The decision covers Solu, Wadgaon Shinde and Nirgude, where land will be acquired for the project. Officials said a proposal for land acquisition has already been sent by the district administration to PMRDA.

The planned ring road will be around 83 km long and 65 metres wide. It is being developed to reduce traffic congestion in Pune and nearby areas. The project is expected to need around 700 to 750 acres of land.

Work on the outer ring road, being handled by Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation, has already crossed 30 per cent progress. However, PMRDA’s internal ring road has faced delays in the past.

The MSRDC stretch will connect up to Solu village, where it will join PMRDA’s route. Meanwhile, PMRDA has started land acquisition for a 6.5-km stretch between Alandi and Wagholi.

In the first phase, land rates have been finalised for these three villages. Around 34.65 hectares will be acquired in Solu, 5.71 hectares in Wadgaon Shinde, and 1.44 hectares in Nirgude.

Officials believe this step will speed up the ring road project and help improve traffic flow in the city in the coming years.
