The incident took place in the Paydhuni area, where Abdullah Dokadia, his wife Nasreen Dokadia, and their two daughters, Ayesha and Zainab, died after suddenly falling ill overnight.
According to preliminary information, the family had dinner at home on Saturday along with relatives. Later in the night, they reportedly ate watermelon. A few hours later, all four began suffering from vomiting, loose motions and severe weakness.
A doctor living in the same building rushed to help after learning about the emergency. He said the family members were in a weak and semi-conscious condition when he arrived. One of the daughters was struggling to breathe, and emergency CPR was attempted before she was taken to hospital.
As their condition worsened, the family was shifted to a nearby hospital and later referred to Sir J. J. Hospital. Despite treatment, all four died.
Police have registered an accidental death case and started an investigation. Officials have collected food and biological samples to determine the exact cause of the deaths.
Authorities said the postmortem has been completed, and forensic reports are awaited. While food poisoning is suspected at this stage, police said other possibilities are also being examined before reaching a final conclusion.
The shocking incident has raised serious questions, and the final medical report is expected to provide clarity on what led to the family’s sudden deaths.
