Aarika Sumit Srivastava was undergoing treatment at P D Hinduja Hospital after the accident that took place on May 10. Doctors confirmed her death on Sunday morning.
Another girl injured in the same incident, Harshita Kumar, remains in critical condition and is currently admitted to the ICU at the same hospital.
Earlier this week, Aarika had been declared brain dead after doctors conducted an apnea test. However, the second confirmatory test, which is required under medical protocol, was delayed as her family continued to hope for recovery.
Doctors had reportedly agreed to postpone the test considering the family’s emotional condition.
In a message shared by the family, they said Aarika had fought bravely after the tragic accident but could not survive. Her funeral was held on Sunday morning.
The incident happened after a tree collapsed in Mumbai’s Khar area, injuring the two girls who were travelling in an autorickshaw at the time.
A spokesperson for Bluestone, the developer linked to the premises where the tree collapse occurred, said the company is extending full support to the affected family during this difficult time.
The company stated that it is cooperating with authorities and has shared relevant records for an independent technical investigation into the incident.
According to the statement, preliminary observations suggest the tree may have suffered from hidden internal decay and severe termite infestation despite showing no visible signs of weakness externally.
The developer also said the project was being carried out under proper engineering supervision and safety protocols.
Officials added that the focus currently remains on supporting the families and allowing experts to complete an objective assessment of the incident.
