Authorities have issued strict new safety rules for commuters using the newly opened Mumbai–Pune Missing Link stretch on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway.

The biggest rule is clear — stopping vehicles for selfies or photography is now strictly banned on this route. Officials have warned that roadside stops for pictures can create serious safety risks and may lead to accidents. Those breaking the rule could face penalties.

Speed limits have also been fixed for vehicles using the new stretch. Light motor vehicles have been allowed a maximum speed of 100 kmph, while buses and other passenger vehicles must stay within 80 kmph.

To improve safety, the entire route is under 24×7 CCTV surveillance, including tunnels, bridges, and other key sections. Authorities say constant monitoring will help control violations and ensure smoother traffic movement.

Officials have asked drivers to strictly follow traffic rules and cooperate in making travel on the new route safe and hassle-free.

The newly built Missing Link is a major infrastructure upgrade on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. Spread across around 13.3 km, the route has been designed to avoid the difficult ghat section between Khopoli and Lonavala, a stretch known for sharp turns, traffic bottlenecks, and long delays, especially during weekends and the monsoon season.

Instead of winding through steep mountain roads, the new route passes through major tunnels and long viaducts built across rugged terrain. This engineering design is expected to cut travel time and improve road safety.

The older ghat section has often seen accidents because of steep slopes, blind turns, and heavy congestion. With smoother gradients and more controlled driving conditions, the Missing Link is expected to offer a safer and faster journey for commuters.
