According to rainfall data recorded until 8:15 am on July 2, most weather centres received more than 120 mm of rain during the previous 24 hours. Some areas even recorded over 200 mm of rainfall.
The India Meteorological Department’s Colaba observatory recorded 158 mm of rain during the 24-hour period. As of July 1, the station had received a cumulative rainfall of 668.9 mm this monsoon season, which is around 31.9% of its annual average rainfall.
During the same period last year, Colaba had received rainfall equal to 28.9% of its annual average.
The Santacruz observatory recorded an even higher 205 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours, making it one of the wettest locations in the city during the period.
As of July 1, Santacruz had recorded a cumulative rainfall of 718.3 mm, which is around 30.9% of its annual average. During the corresponding period last year, the figure stood at 22.7%.
The latest rainfall marks a significant increase in monsoon activity across Mumbai. With the heavy rainfall expected to continue, authorities have advised residents to remain cautious, especially in low-lying and waterlogging-prone areas.
